First coined by Sir Thomas More in 1516, the word ‘utopia’ and its ideologies are often used in reference to our built environment. Many of the most famous utopian cities in history were never built, but they still influence architecture today. Broadcaster and author of Villages of Vision Gillian Darley will join expert on utopian cities from Leeds University Dr Diane Morgan, architect and author of Last Futures Douglas Murphy, utopian inspired architect Kate MacIntosh, and expert on utopian literature Dr Matthew Beaumont to discuss how failed utopian cities continue to shape our built environment.

Panel discussion at Edinburgh Science Festival on 30th March 2016
