Since Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum reopened in April 2013, well over a million visitors have poured back in to examine the Netherlands’ largest collection of art and artefacts, including paintings by Vermeer, Rembrandt and others of the Dutch Golden Age. A titanic example of late 19th-century romantic eclecticism, designed by Pierre Cuypers and opened in 1885, its painstaking restoration, which has taken more than a decade, has been the work of Seville-based architect Cruz y Ortiz.
